Ashfield and Eastwood MP Gloria De Piero and Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills have written to East Midlands Trains urging it to install a ticket machine at Langley Mill railway station.
Passengers travelling from Langley Mill cannot currently collect pre-ordered tickets or purchase tickets at the station because there is no facility to do so.
This means that people miss out on cheaper advance fares or have to travel to a different station so they can pick up tickets they have bought online or over the phone.
The train company told Gloria earlier this year that it planned to install a new ticket vending machine at the station but have since declared that this announcement was made in error.
In a letter to Jake Kelly, the managing director of East Midlands Trains, the two MPs said: “Many local residents have contacted us to express their frustrations over the delays and difficulties caused by the lack of a ticket collection point.”
They also state that installing a ticket vending machine at Langley Mill would be a ‘welcome sign’ of the company’s commitment to the station and the area.
Gloria said: “Earlier this year East Midlands Trains told me that it planned to install a ticket vending machine at Langley Mill station so it was extremely disappointing to hear that this isn’t the case.
“I have been told that safety and security reasons and the station layout make it difficult to put in a machine but these excuses are of little use to local train passengers.
“I urge the company to reconsider for the sake of all train users in the Eastwood area and beyond.”
